Italian simple wooden magnifier (No. 144)
This is a simple magnifier made from fruit wood. It has a single, biconvex lens mounted in an aperture in the top turned wood piece. The lens is maintained in position with a metal circlip. Diameter of the lens is 10mm, the focal length is 9mm, with a magnification of approximately 5x. Samples are placed on the metal pin, with focusing accomplished by bending the wire closer or further from the lens. Imaging is fair with vignetting at the periphery. The height of the instrument is 8.0cm.
