Focus is via a chain drive connected to the focus shaft and the brass mount to which the microscope is attached.
There are two modes of focus: Course focus ("quick-motion") is controlled by a large knob (A). Fine focus ("slow-motion") is affected by pulling or pushing lever B while simultaneously pressing the lever sideways. The top of the lever wraps around the same focus shaft and turns it to a much finer degree.
