The specimen holder can be either a forceps or a pointer.

Specimen pointer. When tightened the thumbscrew (A) fixes the position of the specimen holder along the brass support arm. It also tightens around the specimen holder and fixes it in place.

The specimen arm has a spring bar to hold the pointer jam screw in place.
