This specimen is a small, simple microscope made of hand painted wood, colored in red and green. It has a single lens mounted in the top, cylindrical portion, which is supported by a lathe-turned post. The sample is placed on the slightly concave pedestal at the top of the threaded support pillar. Focusing works by screwing the part holding the lens up or down the threaded support. The entire magnifier is painted red and aqua in an abstract flower motif. It is used only for opaque objects illuminated from above, and has a magnification of approximately 8x. Height = 11 cm. |
