Microscope #216 Body

Huygenian eyepiece. 1in focal length (10x)
Top lens (L): dia=11mm, f=32mm
Bottom lens (R): dia=19mm, f=38mm
Eyepiece draw-tube shows tube length markings from 140–210mm. This tube slides within the main body. Often these graduated draw tubes had rack and pinion adjustment. This instrument is unusual in that adjustment was apparently by friction only. In this instrument the fit is very loose.

The draw-tube was designed to accommodate individual objectives (due to their differing optics). Graduated draw-tubes were supplementary, and not standard on microscopes of this era.

Microscopy body components. A: Graduated draw-tube; B Body tube;
C: nosepiece with three objectives.
