Focus is via rack & pinion. Turning the focus knob raises or lowers the stage. The stage, now missing, would have been attached to the bracket at "A".
Note the engraving on the main pillar (arrow).
The cantilevered microscope body support arm press-fits into the friction holder at the top of the main support pillar. The arm is 10.5cm long.
