The brass microscope body is square in cross-section. The firm made two styles of the square body Universal microscope: this monocular model and a Wenham binocular version.
The bull's eye lens is mounted on an ball-and-socket articulating arm. Dia=3.0cm, f=4.0cm
On the original stage this double spring secured a brass plate with a "ledge" for holding microscope slides. The operator would grasp the leading edge of the plate (which was curled over the front of the stage) to move the specimen.
A central pivot allows the microscope to be inclined to the horizontal position.
