The sample stage is modeled after one invented in 1832 by Edmund Turrell. It has X and Y movement actuated by concentric thumbscrews on the left side, but with a single Y-movement thumbscrew on the right. In addition, the top plate rotates.

Y movement is a typical Rack and Pinion (arrow).
Condenser accessories can be attached quickly using a bayonet mount.
Bayonet tabs are placed on each condenser component to allow for convenient connect and disconnect.
