Slot for the binocular prism when fitting the microscope for binocular vision. The prism was most likely a Wenham-type. These prisms were good only for low magnification objectives. Powell & Lealand had also a device for binocular imaging at high magnification. It consisted of a glass disc with inclined, parallel sides, and a rectangular prism.
