Focus is by Rack & Pinion in the style of the Cuff instrument. The forward pillar is stationary. The pinion is attached to the thumbscrew. It engages with the rack gear machined into the back pillar. The microscope body is fixed to the top of this rectangular pillar. s
Tension is maintained via these spring leaves.
The stage is fixed to the main pillar. It has a pinned circular top piece for trapping microscope slides.
The illuminating mirror has a plane and parabolic side. Dia=42mm.
This compass joint at the base of the main pillar allows the body to be tilted to an "aquatic" position.
