The main support pillar consists of two separated sections. The rack, attached to the stage, slides between them.
The pinion mount is screwed to the two pillar halves. When the focus wheel is turned the toothed rack and stage slides up or down for focus.
Like the Cuff microscope, the microscope body fits into the cantilever at the top of the support pillar.
This compass joint at the base of the pillar allows the instrument to tilt. This instrument probably was bolted to a wooden box or chest. Presently, however, there is a (modern) mahogany base.
The cruciform stage has a swing arm and mount for various tools, all now missing.
The collar descending from the stage is probably for a condenser cone (now missing).
