The specimen holder has a spring mechanism to hold the samples. The stage can be translated by way of a rack and pinion mechanism (upper right)
The stage is supported by this pillar. Vertical positioning rack and pinion is shown here. Hole at the bottom is for the threaded rod of the focusing mechanism.
