The objective, or projection, lenses are mounted in this slider. The slider is T-shaped, which allows it to fit in the body tube in only one orientation. Notches on the side of the slider mate with a spring-loaded detent for positioning.
The objective slider fits in a T-shaped slot in the top of the body tube.
This detent forces correct alignment of the objective lenses.
