The mahogany pedestal unscrews to gain access to the circular mirror inside the base.
Light reflected from the mirror is attenuated by one of four apertures (8, 10, 14, and 20mm diameter) in a brass collar (A). The angle of the mirror is adjusted by a brass thumbscrew (B).
Unscrewing the base reveals the illuminating mirror. The single-sided mirror is concave and has a diameter of 4cm.
Microscope slides are held in place by these brass stage clips.
