This is a plate of brass with a central hole and a sample forceps mounted to one end. The mount can be rotated and the forceps shaft slid to center the sample over the hole. This device was originally part of a larger microscope.

This microscope component was originally accession No. 16 in the famous Nachet Collection of Paris; possibly the most important collection of early microscopes. Its length is 11.2cm.
