Clues to the origin of microscope 116

The all-wood construction of the microscope body
The black shagreen covering
The highly sculptured dust cap

These suggest that the microscope was manufactured in France*.

The body construction is similar to two authentic French microscopes in the Golub collection:
Ménard box microscope
&
Chest Microscope

Thanks to Mr. Wallace Schichnes for assistance in identifying the clues.

Enlargement of the Shagreen covering showing the stippled surface of the material.
Turned eyepiece dust cap.
The microsocpe body is made from either Lignum vitae or palissander, a common material in France or England in 18th century*.
