This microscope has the typical three-lens optical configuration:

A: Objective

B: Field lens

D: Eyepiece.

All are single bi-convex lenses. The body tube is constructed completely of wood (Lignum vitae). The upper tube is covered in black shagreen.

The eyepiece lens sits in a groove in the Lignum vitae body, and is held in place by a wooden retaining ring. Topping the body is an ornate Lignum vitae dust cap.
The two objectives have a Lignum vitae base, on which the single bi-convex objective lens sits. The lens is retained by a screw-on brass cover. Note the aperture diameter compared to the diameter of the objective lens.
There are two removable objectives with Microscope 116. Left is the "high power" objective; Right is "low power".
