Inserted onto the tip of the specimen pointer is this hinged live-box. Compass microscopes of this type also included a black-white disc and a tube holder, that inserted onto the pointer.
The live-box opens on a screw hinge to hold small specimens.
The other side of the specimen holder is a traditional spring forceps.
Focusing is done by pivoting the sample arm to bring the specimen closer or further from the objective lens.
