Microscope #124 base consists of a threaded ring supported by three curved legs. Turning the microscope body in the threads focuses the instrument. There is a hole in the center of the circular base plate that could have allowed transmitted light illumination.

Circular base plate is 8.5 cm in diameter. The hole in the baseplate allows the microscope to be used in transmitted light mode.
